Question by Small Business Man: whats an average cost to have a Business Website built from scratch? a website to sell items ?
I have a retail company and I have a store front, however I do not have a website right now. I am interested in having a website built for my business, I want to sell my items online as well as in my store. What is an estimated price for someone to build me a basic website that customers can place orders using there credit cards, and I will process the order on my side and ship out the products to the customer.
Can anybody help me with this information?
There are so many people out there that build websites from scratch, there are so many different prices and plans out there to have a website created but I need an estimated cost.
What is to much? how do I know I am getting a good website?

it really depends on the functionality of the site, you would have to go by a case by case basis. i would recommend that you do it urself using a free web host. such as www.moonfruit.com, moonfruit will let you build your own web site for free, its very easy to use, and it has plenty of functionality as well such as using pay pal and selling things even w/ the free version i believe. the only restriction is that in your domain name it will be “www.sitename.moonfruit.com.” moonfruit’s site editor has many great web building tools that are easy to use. i personally have used it and it works great! so just visit www.moonfruit.com to get started and give it a try

£500 to £5000. Just don’t pay £5000 for the £500 one.
If you are really serious and want a site that is good now and future-proof, A. Do it right and B. Don’t do it yourself. You will be asking for trouble!

Be smart, and in the end you will end up paying VERY LITTLE.
First of all, there are free applications for Online Retail. The best and most famous one is OS Commerce (http://www.oscommerce.com).
Also, for accepting Credit Cards, there are numerous Online Gateways with Merchant Accounts Available. At the moment I’m using FastSpring (www.fastspring.com), but there are also others, such as 2Checkout…
You may also check http://www.getafreelancer.com and hire some cheap workers/programmers there to help you out with the site/design/functionality…
Finally, if you want more info, just contact me (is there a way through Yahoo Answre? :p ), and I can help you out with all of the info you need.

For a basic site you shouldn’t pay more than a couple hundred US dollars… now with increased functionality, etc.. the prices can go up. But you shouldn’t need more than the basics.

how much ?? us 500-5000 it depends various functions you need
building a website is like having a physical store
3 steps you need to finish
1. find a physical store (find a server/virtual host)
you may rent or do it by yourself
Rent-means you need “virtual host” (search engine can help you)
Do it by yourself – find a computer and set it as a server
2. put your commodities in your physical store (uploading your contents to server)
Web contents are placed to the server
any function you need can install in this stage
3. name your physical store (domain name setting like http://www.tsmmc.com)
use DNS server to let visitors can link to your website
try outsourcing it too – you will save a lot
